Contrary to what you might expect, Great Snoring is smaller than its sister Little Snoring. Our village has pretty houses of flint and brick along each side of the narrow main street. The origin of the names is Saxon; in the Domesday Book it is recorded as Snarringes, the home of the family and descendants of someone named Snear.
As well as being near to the coast, Great Snoring lies just north of Fakenham, with its famed Thursday market.
Interesting places very near Great Snoring include the Thursford Collection and the medieval village of Little Walsingham with a long history of pilgrimage that continues to this day.
The North Norfolk coastal area boasts many picturesque fishing villages as well as some of the world's most important bird sanctuaries. Norfolk is renowned for its huge number of medieval churches, each distinct from the other.
Norfolk's capital, Norwich is 45 minutes drive away and makes an excellent day out, with its Norman cathedral, numerous medieval churches, good shopping and eating places, along with excellent museums such as the Castle Museum.
Great Snoring is one of the most beautiful villages in the area. The house adjoins the grounds of the Manor House of the village, which dates from the 15th century.
